School Holiday News:
With incessant rains in several states in southern India, various state governments and district authorities have issued holidays for schools, colleges and educational institutions today, October 16, and tomorrow, October 17, 2024. States like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh have been receiving heavy rainfall in the last few days while red and orange alerts have been issued in several districts.
Andhra Pradesh on the other hand has announced school holidays until October 18, 2024, due to the incessant rainfall received in several parts of the state.
Certain parts of Kerala and Odisha is also expected to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days caused by the cyclone alert issued by the IMD.
In Tamil Nadu, the districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and several other districts have been receiving heavy rainfall. IMD has issued a red alert for these places and citizens have been asked to stay safe and not venture out until necessary,
In Karnataka, Bengaluru has been receiving heavy rainfall in the last few days and the IMD has issued an orange alert.
School Holidays: AP Schools Closed until October 17
Schools in several regions including Nellow, Tirupati, Chittoor and Prakasham of Andhra Pradesh will remain closed until October 17, 2024, due to incessant rains and harsh weather conditions. Schools and colleges along with other educational institutions will remain closed until tomorrow due to heavy rainfall. The IMD has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next few days.
As per reports, the weather department has forecasted heavy to extreme rainfall in 13 districts, including West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR District, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati. Considering these conditions, district authorities have announced school holidays for the above-mentioned districts until October 18, 2024,
School Holidays: Schools Closed in Certains Parts of Kerala
As per reports, the IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert in the southern state due to low pressure in the Bay of Bengal which is likely to develop into a depression giving rise to a cyclone and causing landfall in Kerala and other states. According to reports, yellow alert and orange alerts have been issued for all districts and very heavy to heavy rainfall is expected in a few districts considering which holidays have been announced for schools and colleges in a few of the districts including Kannur, Malappuram and Idukki. Students must connect with school authorities for the latest updates on school holidays.
School Holidays: Odisha Schools Closed in Few Districts
Considering IMD reporting on heavy rains and cyclones, schools colleges and educational institutions in certain parts of Odisha will remain closed tomorrow, October 17, 2024. Confirmation regarding holidays will be provided by individual districts and school authorities.
Karnataka School Holidays: Schools Closed In Bengaluru
IT capital has been receiving heavy rainfall since Tuesday, October 15, 2025. Considering the continuous rainfall in the city, the Urban District Commissioner has issued a notification regarding schools and colleges remaining shut today, October 16 given the heavy rainfall and the orange alert issued. With the alert issued for an impending cyclone, schools in the city will also remain closed tomorrow, October 17, 2024. Students are advised to read out to the school authorities for confirmation on school holidays.

School Holiday: Schools Closed in 4 Districts in TN
Due to continuous rainfall, schools in Tamil Nadu's Chennai will remain closed tomorrow, October 17, 2024. The Tamil Nadu state government has announced holidays for schools and colleges across four districts namely, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet. Schools in Chennai were closed yesterday October, 15 and a holiday has been declared for today, October 16 as heavy rainfall lashed the state.
The state Chief Minister directed district authorities to announce the school holiday for today and has also asked IT firms to allow employees to work from home until October 18. Information regarding school reopening will be intimated by officials according to the weather conditions.
"The Puducherry government has announced a holiday for schools and colleges today, October 16 due to incessant rains. The government in its notification states that schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal will remain closed amidst harsh weather conditions and the forecast of heavy rains by the weather department."
